German emigration to Brazil 1824-1972

German emigration to Brazil 1824-1972

It is estimated that between the years 1824 and 1972, about 200,000 immigrants (this figure is not a consensus among historians and can vary greatly depending on the source consulted) arrived in Brazil from different parts of Germania, especially in the southeast and south of this country.

Although there were attempts to establish colonies with German immigrants in the south of the state of Bahia before 1824, these are not well documented.

Here on this page you will find information about the first phase of emigration from former Germany to Brazil (1824 to 1830).

At this time it is estimated that 10,000 German-speaking immigrants from various kingdoms and countries came to Brazil (including settlers, soldiers and artisans).

42 ships left from various European ports and headed mainly to Rio de Janeiro. From there they followed in smaller boats to the provinces, where they were assigned to new colonies.
