1 – Abstract

This book will deal with the ship Actif, which in 1828 brought German immigrants to Brazil, mostly to the state of Pernambuco (at first), departing from Germany.

In this ship were the immigrants (for the most part) who became the pioneers of the colony of Santa Amélia (Catucá), on the outskirts of the city of Recife.

The text of the book, including the itinerary of the voyage of this ship, is based on historical documents and portrays as faithfully as possible the difficulty that the pioneers of German immigration faced in the journey and in subsistence on Brazilian soil.

In the opinion of this author, it is one of the most incredible stories of German immigration to Brazil in the period from 1824 to 1830.

Basically, the book provides details of the ship, departure and arrival place, departure and arrival date, the passenger list (with some historical corrections), basic information about the immigrants and, finally, a summary of the Santa Amélia colony, based on documents from the time.
