Ship Helena Maria (Aka Cäcilia)

Ship Helena Maria (Aka Cäcilia)

This ship sailed from the port of Texel in Amsterdam / Holland on 06/01/1828.

He was not very lucky because he suffered serious breakdowns in the North Sea from 12 to 13 January 1828.

He was rescued by an English boat and taken to Falmouth (England).

The vessel can no longer conduct transatlantic voyages having been sold in Falmouth.

The castaways stayed in Falmouth waiting for help for almost a year.

One question remain: What would be the original passengers of Helena and Maria (Helena Maria)?

The oral and written tradition of the German Immigration in Rio Grande do Sul mentioned this ship as “Cäcilia”.

More recently a new version appeared, where it is said that in reality this ship “Cäcilia” did not exist and its name was used for some unknown reason, because its real name was Helena Maria.

The truth is that many of the shipwrecked Helena Maria (Càcilia) came in 1829 to Brazil aboard the James Laing Ship (see the list of passengers in the corresponding page on the blog homepage).

Navio veleiro Helena Maria (vulgo Cäcilia)

Este navio partiu do porto de Texel em Amsterdã/Holanda em 06/01/1828.

Não teve muita sorte pois sofreu sérias avarias no Mar do Norte de 12 a 13 de Janeiro de 1828.

Foi socorrido por um barco inglês e levado para Falmouth (Inglaterra).

O navio não pode mais realizar viagens transatlânticas tendo sido vendido em Falmouth.

Os náufragos ficaram em Falmouth esperando por ajuda por quase um ano.

  • Uma questão permanece: Quais seriam os passageiros originais do Helena and Maria (Helena Maria)?

A tradição oral e escrita da Imigração Alemã no Rio Grande do Sul mencionava este navio como “Cäcilia”.

Mais recentemente uma nova versão surgiu, onde se diz que na realidade este navio “Cäcilia” não existiu e o seu nome foi utilizado por algum motivo desconhecido, pois seu verdadeiro nome era Helena Maria.

O certo é que muitos dos náufragos do Helena Maria (vulgo “Cäcilia”) vieram em 1829 para o Brasil a bordo do Navio James Laing (veja a relação dos passageiros na página correspondente na página inicial do blog).

  1. Phillipina Boeber, nascida Kilian, emigrou viúva e viveu junto com seu ex-cunhado Daniel Samsel na Colônia de Santo Amaro, após sua irmã, Charlotte, morrer na viagem entre Amsterdam e Rio de Janeiro (local da morte indefinido).
  2. Família Häsel foi separada na partida do Maria Helena (leia o artigo no site de Huettenberger para maiores informações). A esposa de Friedrich Häsel Júnior viajou no Helena Maria. O esposo e o pai dele (Friedrich Häsel Sênior) viajaram para o Rio de Janeiro no navio Alexander.
  3. Incluído sogro Johannes Klein na família de Philipp Knapp.
  4. Magdalena nascida Brauns ficou viúva de Andreas Maderts, provavelmente falecido na viagem para o Rio de Janeiro.
  5. Susanna nascida Pfeil, ficou viúva de Johannes Fey, o qual morreu após chegada no Rio de Janeiro.
  6. Incluída sogra Berlitz na família de Jacob Sander.
  7. Anna Maria usou sobrenome de avôs na sumaca Florinda, “Schmidts”. Nasceu Göbel (Goebel/Gebel). Viúva de Peter Sausen.
  8. Phillipp Schmitz Senior era casado com Anna Maria Merges.
  9. Incluído o Johann Philipp Conrad, cunhado de Heinrich Wentz na família.

Observações:

  • O navio James Laing trouxe os náufragos do navio Helena e Maria (supostamente também do navio Cäcilia, mas não há confirmação até o momento da existência deste último navio).
  • Há divergência em relação aos sobrenomes (grafia) de alguns passageiros entre os vários autores pesquisados.
  • Os sobrenomes entre parênteses é uma possível variação do sobrenome original (negrito).
  • O número de pessoas pode não estar correto devido a possíveis situações ocorridas na viagem.
  • A lista pode estar incompleta (tanto podem faltar passageiros como conter passageiros de outros navios).

Dieses Schiff lief am 01.06.1828 im Hafen von Texel in Amsterdam / Holland aus.

Er hatte kein großes Glück, denn er erlitt vom 12. bis 13. Januar 1828 schwere Pannen in der Nordsee.

Er wurde von einem englischen Boot gerettet und nach Falmouth (England) gebracht.

Das Schiff kann keine transatlantischen Reisen mehr durchführen, nachdem es in Falmouth verkauft wurde.

Die Castaways blieben fast ein Jahr in Falmouth und warteten auf Hilfe.

Eine Frage bleibt offen: Was wären die ursprünglichen Passagiere von Helena und Maria (Helena Maria)?

In der mündlichen und schriftlichen Überlieferung der deutschen Einwanderung in Rio Grande do Sul wurde dieses Schiff als „Cäcilia“ bezeichnet.

In jüngerer Zeit erschien eine neue Version, in der es heißt, dass dieses Schiff “Cäcilia” in Wirklichkeit nicht existierte und sein Name aus einem unbekannten Grund verwendet wurde, da sein richtiger Name Helena Maria war.

Die Wahrheit ist, dass viele der Schiffbrüchigen Helena Maria (Càcilia) 1829 an Bord des James Laing Ship nach Brasilien kamen (siehe Passagierliste auf der entsprechenden Seite auf der Blog-Homepage).

Im Jahr 2018 erhielten wir die Bestätigung, dass sich die meisten Passagiere des Schiffes „Cäcilia“ tatsächlich in der Helena Maria befanden.
